Suit up, get loud, be proud it's Black and Gold Alumni Day at Warrior Field this Saturday as the Warriors football team battles the York Lions at 1pm. Be sure to register for the
Alumni VIP Tent which includes beer sampling from Waterloo Brewing, tailgate-inspired food, as well as entrance into Warrior Field and grandstand seating during the game.
The Warriors enter the game at 3-1, after spoiling Carleton's Homecoming last weekend in Ottawa, taking out the Ravens 34-24. The offence has been rolling but it was the defence that stepped up in a big way last week, led by fourth year linebacker
Michael Reid (Sault Ste. Marie/) who had 13 solo tackles in the win. Reid currently sits second in the nation in tackles with 35.
Andy Melo (Georgetown/) was also a standout in the victory with 8.5 tackles while
Lautaro Frecha (Sault Ste. Marie/) and
Kurtis Gray (Waterloo/) each had six, including a big pick by Gray to end the first half.
Offensively, the Warriors have several players leading the way including fourth year running back
Dion Pellerin (Abbotsford/) who is fourth in U SPORTS with 122.5 rushing yards per game, and third year receiver
Gordon Lam (Kitchener/) who is second in the nation with his 111.5 yards per game, and first in receptions with 31. In last week's win over the Ravens, Lam had three receiving TD's giving him four on the season. Not to be outdone is fourth year receiver
Tyler Ternowski (Hamilton/) who is having another big season with 325 receiving yards on 25 receptions.
Tre Ford (Niagara Falls/) continues to do
Tre Ford (Niagara Falls/) things with 287 yards per game in the air, the fourth most in U SPORTS and the top completion percentage at 71.5%. His legs also continue to be a threat in Waterloo's running game, rushing to the beat of 86.8 yards per game, the sixth most in the country.
The Warriors sit in third in the tight OUA standings looking to take advantage of a 0-5 Lions team this Saturday. It will then be a grinding finish with three tough opponents slated included road games against the 5-0 Western Mustangs, and 4-1 McMaster Marauders and the Battle of Waterloo under the lights on Thursday, October 10.
