The bruised and battered Warriors put forth a valiant effort in a pair of home games with the No. 10 team in the country, Lakehead this Friday and Saturday at the PAC. The Warriors have half their team down to injury but put two gutsy efforts together in the losses.
On Friday, Waterloo dropped the contest 69-45 as Waterloo held Lakehead to their fourth lowest output of their season.
Lakehead shot 36.6% from the field compared to 24.6% for the Warriors while performing nicely on the glass, sticking with the much taller T-Wolves collecting 31 boards to their 38.
The Warriors got scoring up and down the line-up with Megan Goar (Waterloo/) leading the way off the bench with eight points. Ella Mahler (Hamilton/) and Hilary Ferguson (Cambridge/) each had seven while Vanessa Hughes (Hamilton/) had six. On the boards it was Meghan Sharp (Kitchener/) and Ferguson leading the way, each with six.
On Saturday, it was Fantastic Alumni Day at the PAC, and in front of a large crowd the Warriors played an impressive system in the opening half finding themselves down just two (30-28) at halftime. Ferguson and Mahler both had a strong opening half with eight and six points respectively.
The T-Wolves however came out determined in the third quarter and outscored the Warriors 24-9 to take control of the game. An even fourth would make the final 64-46 in favour of the visitors.
Mahler would finish with a team high 11 while Ferguson had eight and was stellar on the glass with a game high 15 rebounds.
For Lakehead, OUA leading scorer Leashja Grant led all scorers with 16 in the win.
The 5-15 Warriors' next matchup is Brock in St. Catharines on Wednesday at 6pm.
