Men's and women's curling advance to OUA quarter-finals

Update: Both men and women lost very close games in the quarter-finals. Women fell 6-4 to Brock and men 6-5 to Carleton in an extra end.

Update: Waterloo had three curlers named OUA All-Stars at the completion of the event. On the women's side, Laura Masters (Sault Ste. Marie/) (first-team) and Katie Ford (Niagara Falls/) (second-team) were named all-stars while skip John Wilsey earned a second-team spot on the men's side. 


Both the men's and women's curling teams have enjoyed a successful 2019 OUA Championship finishing the round robin with 5-2 records.

On the women's side, Waterloo started off the week with a 9-2 win over the UOIT Ridgebacks and then fell to 1-1 following a 9-4 loss to the Toronto Varsity Blues, who ended up a perfect 7-0 in their pool.

Waterloo then won their next three beating Laurier (6-3), Windsor (7-3), and Trent (10-1) before dropping a very tight battle to Lakehead 6-4 in their Saturday night contest. 

The Warriors then closed out their pool play with a 9-7 win over a very solid Carleton squad in an extra end. The Warriors will face the Brock Badgers, who also finished 5-2, in the OUA quarter-finals at 9pm tonight.

In men's action, the Warriors also opened their pool play with a big win over UOIT, beating the Ridgebacks 8-1. The men then dropped a tight second match to Laurentian 7-6 before winning their next two, 8-2 over Trent and 7-6 over Queen's.

After a tough 9-4 loss to Ryerson, Waterloo picked up two dominant wins over McMaster (8-3) and Algoma (9-1) to punch their ticket to the OUA quarter-finals tomorrow morning at 9am against Carleton, who finished 6-1 in their pool.
