With 23 seconds remaining Maria Walsh hit a 3-pointer to give her Nipissing Lakers a 56-53 as the visitors went on to top the black and gold 58-53 at the PAC on Saturday night.
The Warriors held a three point lead down the stretch thanks to a couple of big 3-pointers from
Vanessa Hughes (Hamilton/) but they were unable to hold on for the win.
Nipissing improves to 2-5 with the win while Waterloo drops to 1-6.
Hughes led all scorers with 16 points going 5-for-16 from the field with four 3-pointers and two made free throws. She was also a force on the boards with 12 rebounds, 10 of them on the defensive side.
Sonja Matthews (Cambridge/) also hit double digits with 10 points going 2-for-7 from the field and 5-for-6 from the charity stripe. Syndey Wilson and
Beth Howlett (Burlington/) rounded out Waterloo's offence with seven and six points respectively. Â
The Warriors will now prepare for their School Day Game this Wednesday at 11am when they take on Western. Over 1,500 elementary students are expected to fill the PAC in what will be a charged atmosphere.Â
