Men's Rugby will be hosting the opening round of the OUA playoffs on home field for the second consecutive year following an impressive 40-19 road win over the Western Mustangs last night.
Michael Appiah-Kubi (Toronto/North York) opened the scoring in the five minutes with a try off a dominant Warrior scrum, which was a theme for the entire match. Frank Kang (Stratford/) would follow up with a try in the 10th minute as he broke a tackle a few metres away from the line and dove in for the easy drive.
The scores kept coming as Cody Jarcew (Toronto/) scored from the back of a maul in the 21st minute as the Warriors pack easily drove Western across for the score. Philip Murphy (Galway) added on with a try off a great line to make the score 28-0. Western was able to score to cut the lead to 28-7, but Paul Schroeder (New Dundee/New Dundee) scored off a penalty in the 36th minute. Western was able to score right at half time and the Warriors lead 35-14 at the break.
The second half was a quiet one with Darius Steffler (Toronto/Toronto) scoring the lone Warriors try in the 70th minute. Mitch Voralek (Waterloo/) finished the day with 10 points on 5/6 kicking on converts.
"We continue to get better each game and we are finally starting to hit our stride," Head Coach Tyler Greer said after the game. "We knew that it was going to take some time, but these are great signs as we get ready for Laurier next weekend. There are a few things we need to focus on and improve, but overall, this was a great team effort."
The Warriors finish off the season in the Battle of Waterloo vs Laurier. The game takes place on Saturday, October 19, 2019. Kickoff is at 1:00 PM at CIF Field.
