It's been a long time coming but the Warriors men's rugby team finally got past their arch nemesis, the Western Mustangs on Friday afternoon at the lower CIF Fields.
Waterloo took out the 'stangs 28-20 for their first win over the team in purple in over 15 years.
After last weeks win over McMaster, Waterloo has now defeated two of the top programs in the province in just over a week.
"We knew the history against Western and today was a great opportunity to beat them," said head coach
Tyler Greer. "Western made things tough with their physical play and tough defense. We had a great first half but had to deal with a few injuries to some key players. We showed off our depth and did enough to get a crucial win."
Leading the way once again was
Mitch Voralek (Waterloo/) who had eight points on two penalty goals and a conversion. Voralek now leads the OUA in points with 78 on the season.
Punching in tries for the black and gold was
Nicholas Bilodeau (Wellesley/),
Ben Scher (Vancouver/),
Michael Appiah-Kubi (Toronto/North York) and
Paul Schroeder (New Dundee/New Dundee).
With the win Waterloo improves to 4-2 and have an extremely probable chance of qualifying for the post-season.
Waterloo will wrap up their season with two more games, first on the road next Saturday against RMC followed by a home contest against Toronto on Sunday, October 21.
