The Warriors women's basketball team tipped off their 2018-19 season at the PAC on Saturday night and dropped a scrappy contest 70-49. Waterloo got it to within eight midway through the third quarter but the Lancers pushed the pedal back down and took the 21 point victory.
Waterloo's second quarter was their achilles heel as the black and gold could only put up four points to Windsor's 19. The second half was essentially a dead heat with Windsor earning the edge with 32 points to Waterloo's 30.
Waterloo show 24.6% from the field while Windsor operated at 38.1%. The Lancers also out rebounded Waterloo 45-30.
Rookie point guard
Kaitlyn Overeem (Brantford/) led her team with 13 points. Overeem also had four rebounds and two assists in a solid OUA debut performance.
Vanessa Hughes (Hamilton/) was the next best Warrior with nine points while
Beth Howlett (Burlington) and and
Mackenzie Obermayer (Hanover/) each had six. Obermayer also finished with six boards.
For the visitors it was Tyra Blizzard doing most of the damage off the bench with a game high 17 points.
The Warriors are back in action on Wednesday against McMaster in Hamilton at 6pm.Â
