Hawks spoil black and gold day with strong second half performance

The Laurier Golden Hawks outscored Waterloo 19-0 in the second half to spoil the annual black and gold game at Warrior Field with over 1,300 first year students taking in the action.  Laurier took the contest by a final score of 29-11.
After Laurier took a 5-0 lead on a try in the opening five minutes, rookie back Mitch Voralek (Waterloo) kicked home two penalty goals to give the Warriors a 6-5 lead.
Voralek continued his dominating opening half with another try to give his Warriors an 11-5 lead but the Hawks answer back quickly with a try of their own to make it 11-10 at half.

With the wind at their backs, Laurier took advantage in the second half scoring 19 straight points to cruise to the 29-11 win.  With the victory Laurier improved to 2-0 while the Warriors fell to 0-2.
Waterloo will be back in action next Sunday, their third straight home game as they battle Trent on the lower CIF field.
