Warriors open season with impressive draw in battle of Waterloo

Box Score The Warriors women's soccer team opened up their 2016 season with an impressive draw in their battle of Waterloo game against the visiting Laurier Golden Hawks.   Laurier were the 2015 OUA finalists and were ranked No. 6 in the final CIS top 10 poll.

Waterloo found the net in the opening two minutes while the Hawks netted the equalizer in the dying two minutes as the game would end in a 1-1 tie.
Kaitlyn Unger (Ajax) got things going for the Warriors in just the second minute as she tapped in an open netter after a strike by Aysun Osmansoy (Waterloo) was turned aside by the Hawk keeper.   Laurier then turned up the pressure with several quality chances including one of the far right post.

Rookie keeper Findley Dunn (Toronto) stood tall in her Warrior debut making several quality saves including a highlight reel stop in the opening half to send the Warriors into halftime up 1-0.

Waterloo looked as if they were going to hang out for the upset until Maxine Murchie put on a stellar individual effort in the box and slipped her shot past Dunn to even the score.  Nothing would be solved in stoppage time as the two combatants would walk away with a point each.

Waterloo will be back in action next weekend with a pair of games; first in St. Catharines against Brock on Saturday before returning home to Warrior Field on Sunday to take on the Guelph Gryphons.
