It wasn't the start coach Bertoia had hoped for in his second full season as bench boss of the Warriors as the York Lions outscored his Warriors 35-0 in the second half, cruising to the 57-13 victory. 

Mitch Kernick (Elmira) scored the lone touchdown for the black and gold with a 17-yard strike from third year starting quarterback Lucas McConell.  Kicker, Caleb Girard (Waterford) provided the rest of the Warrior offence with two field goals from 11 and 25 yards out. Kernick finished the contest with two catches for 25 yards while McConell went 17-for-40 with 283 yards in the air.

On the ground it was a pair of rookies doing the damage as Dion Pellerin (Abbotsford) and Brandon Metz (Cambridge) teamed up for 75 yards on 13 carries while McConell ran for 24 yards.

For York, quarterback Brett Hunchak was unstoppable throwing for 331 yards and five touchdowns hooking up with his brother Colton twice in the air.  D'Saun Greenaway also caught two in the endzone while finishing with 79 yards on three catches.

Defensively Lauaro Frecha racked up 7.5 tackles while Kurtis Gray (Waterloo) was solid in his Warrior debut, also with 7.5 tackles and one sack.

Waterloo will look to rebound on Labour Day in their tilt with Ottawa.  Kickoff is set for 1pm and tickets can be purchased online.
