Warriors drop first edition of battle of Waterloo 3-1

Box Score The Warriors gave cross-town rivals, Laurier all they could handle in the first battle of Waterloo of 2015 but came up short in a 3-1 loss.  It was Waterloo's home opener and the black and gold showed signs of a positive season against the No. 6 team in the country.

Nicole Lyon scored the opening goal in the 10th minute and provided the insurance marker at the 51st minute to lead her squad to victory.  The winning goal was provided off the foot of Gagan Pahar at the 22nd minute mark.

The Hawks open up their 2015 campaign with 3 straight wins while the black and gold have now lost two straight and are 0-2-1 on the season.

Waterloo was heavily outplayed in the early going of the opening half but shifted the momentum late with a nice strike into the top right corner by Shannon Breit (Toronto), her first as a Warrior.

Down 2-1 going into the second half Waterloo continued to pressure the Hawks but could not get the quality chances they were looking for.  Time would run out on the Warriors and the Hawks would take the match 3-1.

Kala Studens (Sault Ste. Marie) was given the loss giving up two goals while rookie keeper Krystyna Brudnicki (Mississauga) was solid in relief allowing just one.  Laurier's Ashley Almeida picked up her first win of the season for the Hawks.

Waterloo will be back at it tomorrow at 1pm against Guelph on Warrior Field once again.
