Warriors blank Marauders 2-0 for first win of season

Box Score The Warriors used goals in extra time of each half to blank the visiting McMaster Marauders on Sunday afternoon at Warrior Field.

The win is Waterloo's first of the season after coming out on the losing end of some hard-fought games where the black and gold deserved a better fate.  The win gives Waterloo a 1-6-1 record while McMaster drops to 2-3-3.

Waterloo goalie Kala Studens (Sault Ste. Marie) earned her first win and shutout of the season turning aside all four shots faced while also making some key clearing's late in the game.  Marauder's keeper Christina Abbatangelo was given the loss allowing two goals on seven shots.

The Warriors opened the scoring in the 45th mintue as Aysun Osmansoy (Waterloo) fired home her second of the season on a penalty kick sending the home side into half up 1-0.

Waterloo continued to play stellar defence in the second half minimizing the Marauders to very few quality chances allowing the black and gold to capitalize on their offensive chance in the 90th minute.  Kaitlyn Unger (Ajax) put away her first goal as a Warrior and the black and gold killed the clock to pick up the 2-0 victory.
Waterloo will be back at home next Sunday against the winless Brock Badgers before travelling to Sault Ste. Marie to take on another winless team, the Algoma Thunderbirds the following weekend.
