Box Score It may have only been the first game of the season but the Waterloo women's soccer team wasted little time building team chemistry as the Warriors battled back from a late 2-0 deficit to earn a draw with the McMaster Marauders on Saturday afternoon in Hamilton
Â
It was the first contest of the season for any Waterloo varsity team and the women's soccer team certainly got the Warriors off and running.
Â
McMaster carried much of the momentum in the early going with several golden opportunities but Waterloo net minder
Kala Studens (Sault Ste. Marie) stood tall to keep the game scoreless. Â
The Marauders would solve the Warrior net minder in the 24th minute as Jessie Faber opened the scoring to send McMaster into the half with a 1-0 lead.
Â
McMaster added to their lead in the 69th minute as Maila Carboni fired one past Studens giving the home side a two goal advantage.
Â
The black and gold would shift the momentum from there with several quality chances before they finally found net as
Melanie Mitchell (Glen Morris) put in the first goal of the season for the Warriors in the 85th minute.
Â
Only two minutes later
Aysun Osmansoy (Waterloo), a transfer from Laurier playing in her first game with the Warriors, would tally the game's equalizing goal to complete the comeback for the black and gold. Â Time would run out and the game would end in a 2-2 draw giving Waterloo a point in the standings to open the season.
Â
Students finished with seven saves while McMaster keeper Christina Abbatangelo had six.
Â
Waterloo will be back at it tomorrow in Guelph at 1pm.
