Box Score Madison McDonald (Kitchener) scored in the 20th minute and the Waterloo Warriors defence did the rest as the black and gold topped the Algoma Thunderbirds 1-0 on a chilly Saturday in Sault Ste. Marie.
McDonald who played keeper for the Warriors last season, has moved up to the midfield and it has proven to be an effective move for head coach
John O'Brien. McDonald and another keeper who has made the move up front,
Krystyna Brudnicki (Mississauga) have been key for the Warriors offence the last couple of games as they have now won three straight matches, all without allowing goal.
McDonald led the way with three shots on goal in the game while
Kaitlyn Unger (Ajax) also had three. Overall the Warriors fired 17 shots on target compared to just three for the T-Birds.
Kala Studens (Sault Ste. Marie) stopped all of those shots for the shutout, her third straight.
With the win, Waterloo improves to 3-6-1 on the season and their 10 points puts them into the sixth and final playoff spot. Algoma remains winless at 0-9-0. The two combatants will be back in battle tomorrow at 12-noon.
