Golden Hawks rushing game too much for Warriors in battle of Waterloo

Box Score Led by a nearly unstoppable rushing attack, the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks football team shutout the Waterloo Warriors in the Battle of Waterloo on Saturday afternoon as they posted a 44-0 victory. Dillon Campbell recorded his second 200+ yard rushing game of the season as he piled up 204 of Laurier's 385 yards on the ground. The Warriors have started the season 0-3.

In a game that was controlled by the Hawks for much of the game, Laurier built up a 10-0 lead in the opening quarter of play thanks to a Pfeffer field goal and a touchdown by Ethan Loft. Campbell then capped a drive which saw him accumulate 48 of Laurier's 50 yards by plunging into the endzone from one-yard out to give Laurier a 21-0 advantage. Laurier's Chucks Okafor would add his first career touchdown late in the contest.

Waterloo had 201 yards passing compared to Laurier's 115, but had lost to the rushing game 45 yards to 385. Ryan Dirisio rushed for 27 yards while Lucas McConnell (Waterford/) went 20-41 for 201 yards while starting his first game of the OUA season. Paul Cecile (Azilda/) caught for 59 yards and Christian Lewis (Kitchener/) caught 62 yards in the loss. Brendan Conway (Burlington/), Greg Zaitz (Ancaster/), and Lucas Merlin (Burlington/) were the Warriors top defenders combining for 22 tackles.

The Warriors will return to action next Saturday at Warrior Field to host the Windsor Lancers. Kick-off is set for 1pm and the Warriors look to initiate an offence and tighten up offensively in hopes for their first win.
