The first win of the season continued to elude the men's rugby team in a tough 50-10 loss to the Guelph Gryphons on the road Friday night. Guelph improved to 3-1 on the season while Waterloo dropped to 0-3-1.
Jonathan West (Scarborough, Ont.) led the Gryphons with 20 points, scoring two tries and five converts. Jeremy Wright (Fenelon Falls, Ont.) followed closely behind with 15 points on three tries.

The Warriors opened up the game with a penalty goal by
Alex Dwhytie (Etobicoke/) (Etobicoke, Ont.) making it 3-0, but it was the only goal that Guelph allowed Waterloo to put on the board in the first half. The Gryphons quickly fought to take the lead with two tries scored by Jeremy Wright and both Stephen Seccareccia (Unionville, Ont.) and Eric Charest-Pekeski (Minesing, Ont.) scoring a try each. Johnathan West made an impact in the first half as well with three successful conversion kicks, bringing the score to 26-3 at the end of the first half.

The Gryphons did not let up in the second half with Jeremy Wright scoring another try and Johnathan West scoring two for Guelph. The Warriors battled back with
Eddie Kibicho (Nairobi/) (Nairobi, Kenya) scoring their only try of the night and
Alex Dwhytie (Etobicoke/) added two more points with a conversion kick. Adam Maahs (Port Perry, Ont.) scored Guelph's last try of the night late in the game, bringing the final score to 50-10 for the Gryphons.
Waterloo will be home next Saturday when they host the Western Mustangs at 1pm on the lower CIF field.
