Men's Rugby

Warriors battle Laurier to a draw in shortened contest

The Waterloo Warriors battled their way to their first points of the season thanks to a 10-10 draw with Laurier on a rainy Friday evening at University Stadium.

The Hawks, who were leading for most of the contest, saw Waterloo tie the game on a penalty goal from Alex Dwhytie (Etobicoke/) of Etobicoke, Ont., in the 70th minute. Immediately afterwards, thunderstorms rolled over University Stadium and the game was called.

Laurier, which held a 3-0 lead at the half, stretched that advantage to 10 early in the second half when Jeffrey Dinsmore of Waterloo, Ont., found the try line and Nathan Roberts of Waterloo, Ont., completed a successful conversion.

However, Waterloo responded almost immediately thanks to a try from Aaron Goodridge (Waterloo/) of Waterloo, Ont., and a conversion from Dwhytie.

The Warriors now 0-2-1 on the season will face the 2-1 Guelph Gryphons on Friday night at Varsity Field.  Kickoff is set for 8pm.
