Warriors open up 2013 with pair of 2-0 losses

The Waterloo women's soccer team opened up their 2013 campaign with a pair of 2-0 losses.  After falling to the Western Mustangs on the road Waterloo returned to Warrior Field on Sunday for a clash with Laurier in their home opener.

Waterloo put together a hard-nosed opening 45 minutes of action against a talented Golden Hawks squad.  The best chance of the opening quarter came off the foot of Eugenia Acosta (Rochester/) but was turned aside by Laurier keeper Katrina Ward.  At the other end, Warrior netminder Lesia Bandura (Kitchener/) was stellar for the home side turning away all six shots faced.

The consistent pressure by the visiting Hawks would pay off at the 58th minute on a couple of fortunate bounces following a corner.  Jacqueline Lence would be the beneficiary of the final bounce and would be credited with the opening marker.

Laurier padded their lead 14 minutes later as Jessica Craig fired one past a helpless Bandura to secure the 2-0 victory.  Bandura was without a doubt the Warrior of the match with nine quality saves throughout the match.  Ward was less busy for the Hawks only having to make two stops.

The Warriors will be back at it next weekend with a big contest on Saturday for black and gold day.  Over 1,000 fans are expected to attend Waterloo's match on September 7 against the McMaster Marauders.
