Women's Soccer vs. Laurier

Women's Soccer

Golden Hawks blank Warriors 2-0 at Warrior Field

Game Summary

The Waterloo women's soccer team put forth a valiant effort against cross-town rivals, and No. 7 ranked team in the country, Laurier Golden Hawks on Sunday afternoon at Warrior Field but fell short by a score of 2-0.

Waterloo had high hopes of a repeat upset of last year's 1-0 win over the Golden Hawks but a determined visiting side had other plans coming into the game.  From the start of the match, Laurier controlled much of the play taking it to the Warriors, but Waterloo would hold its own defensively.

Laurier found the first goal of the match late in the opening half as second year midfielder Jacqueline Lence (Mississauga, Ont.) notched her first of the season to put her side up 1-0.

The Golden Hawks found the insurance marker midway through the second half as Julie Maheu (Oakville, Ont.) tallied her second of the season to secure the 2-0 victory for Laurier.

Warrior keeper Lesia Bandura (Kitchener/) was the busier of the two netminders, making 11 saves in a losing effort.  Laurier goalie Margaret Carmichael (Orono, Ont.) was only forced to make one save for the shutout.

Waterloo travel to Windsor to take on the Lancers next Saturday, September 15 followed by meeting with the Western Mustangs on Sunday.
