Late surge gives men's rugby first win of season

Game summary

The Waterloo men's rugby team picked up their first win of the season defeating the visiting RMC Paladins 29-13 at the CIF fields on Sunday afternoon.  The win moves Waterloo to 1-1 on the season while RMC dropped to 0-2.

The Paladins battled the gritty Warriors to the bitter end, striking to within two points of Waterloo midway through the second half, but the home side would pull ahead with two late tries to earn the victory.

Richard Lebel (Waterloo/) and Tyler Haladuick (Calgary/) provided the late game heroics with two staggering drives down the bench side of the field, punching the ball all the way into the end zone for the tries.  Lebel and Haladuick also scored tries earlier in the contest while Zach Bogdon (Preston/) provided the remainder of the scoring with a penalty goal and three conversions.

Clark O'Reilly and Riley Saliken each tallied a try for the Paladins while Jaemok Lee Song rounded out the visiting scoring with a penalty goal.

Waterloo will take their 1-1 record into Toronto on Sunday, Sept. 16 to battle the Varsity Blues at 3pm.
