Queen's shutout Warriors in men's rugby action

Liam Underwood of Toronto led the Queen's Gaels to a 45-0 victory over the Waterloo Warriors in OUA men's rugby action, Saturday. Underwood scored a penalty, a try and five conversions, as he finished with 18 points. The shutout put the cap on a great day for rugby at Queen's, as the Gaels has celebrated the official dedication of Nixon Field in a pre-game ceremony before approximately 500 fans.

Underwood opened the scoring with a penalty in the fifth minute, giving the Gaels an early 3-0 lead. Matt Kelly of Toronto scored the first try for Queen's off of a twenty yard run in the tenth minute, and with a successful conversion by Underwood, the Gaels were quickly on top with a score of 10-0.

After amazing teamwork and a few good passes, David Worsley of Vancouver was able to score the second try of the game after breaking through the Warrior's defense. Another successful conversion left the score 17-0.

Late in the first half, Angus MacPhail of Vancouver gained possession of the ball from a ruck, and contributed a try of his own to the score board. Underwood kicked his third successful conversion of the game. Minutes after his conversion kick, Underwood got a well-deserved try of his own, making a great run around Waterloo's defense, before proceeding to kick his fourth conversion of the game, putting the Gaels on top at the end of the first half 31-0.

Patrick Richardson of Vancouver scored midway through the second half, and with another successful conversion the score continued to rise to 38-0.

In the later minutes of the game Brendan McGovern of Ottawa pushed his way through the Waterloo defense to score his first try of the game, Adam McQueen of Canmore, Ont. kicked a successful conversion to cement the Gaels' 

The Warriors return to action on Friday, October 5 as they host cross-town rivals Laurier at the lower CIF field.
