Gryphons wear out Warriors in 34-5 win

The Guelph Gryphons handed Waterloo their second loss of the season defeating the black and gold on home turf 34-5 on Saturday afternoon.  With the win the Gryphons remain perfect at 4-0 while Waterloo dropped to .500 on the season with a 2-2 record.

The game was dead even in the first half with both squads battling at midfield and the visiting Gryphons holding a slight 5-0 lead at half.  Graeme Mahar notched the lone try of the first half.

The second half would be a different story as Guelph would simply wear down the Warriors with ball possession and strength as the Gryphons would score 17 unanswered points to take a commanding 22-0 lead.  Thomas Van Horne, Nicholas Walters and Jeffrey Caudle led the charge for Guelph with a single try each while Joe Newman would add a conversion.

Waterloo would answer the call midway through the second half as Ian Blackie (Guelph/) put together a determined run through five Guelph defenders, powering his way into the end zone for the try to cut into the deficit.

The Gryphons would continue their offensive dominance following the Waterloo score with two more tries by Eric Howard and Byron Boville.  Newman kicked home the conversion to complete the 34-5 victory over Waterloo.

The Warriors travel to Kingston next Saturday to take on the Queen's Gaels at 1pm.
