Game Summary
The Waterloo men's rugby team picked up a convincing 45-10 win over the Toronto Varsity Blues on Sunday afternoon. With the win the Warriors improved to 2-1 on the season while the Blues remain winless at 0-2.
Third-year Blues veteran Nicholas Smith opened the scoring with U of T's first try of the season in the fifth minute of the match. However, the Warriors responded with three more tries by
Dan Snider (Waterloo/),
Richard Lebel (Waterloo/) and
Caleb Ashley (New Dundee/) and Waterloo built a 19-5 lead at the half.
After two more Waterloo tries by Lebel and
Philipp Dreessen (Hamburg/), Nader Mohamed touched down for the Blues second try of the game in the 30
th minute of the second half.
The Warriors would add two more tries by
Jake Heimpel (Waterloo/) and Dreessen with his second of the game to secure the game for the black and gold.
Lebel led the Warriors with two tries and four conversion kicks for 18 points, while Dreessen added 10 points of his own on his two tries.
The Warriors return to the CIF fields next weekend as they host the undefeated Guelph Gryphons (3-0) for a 1pm match.
