Warriors top Hawks 19-13 in heated battle of Waterloo

Game Summary

The Warriors snuck out a 19-13 win over the Laurier Golden Hawks in an intense battle of Waterloo at the CIF fields on Friday afternoon.  Zach Bogdon (Preston/) and Richard Lebel (Waterloo/) each contributed seven points to lead Waterloo to the crucial victory.

The win propels the Warriors into third spot in the OUA with a 3-3 record while Laurier remains winless on the season with an 0-5 record.

The Hawks opened the scoring on a penalty goal by Matthew Sneath (Scarborough) to give the visiting side a 3-0 lead but Waterloo responded several minutes later with Lebel punching home a try and adding a convert for the seven point play.

Leading 7-3 into the second half Waterloo would add to their lead on an impressive rush by Zach Bogdon (Preston/) for the try.

In his first game back from injury Ben Vandenberg (Centreville/) would provide insurance for the Warriors capping off some great passing with his first try of the season.  Bogdon would add a difficult convert to give the home side a 19-3 lead.

The Hawks would then pick up their intensity and pile on the pressure on Waterloo's back field.  Jason Hatzes (Whitby) completed the Laurier attack with a try while Tyler Page (Ilderton) added the convert to bring the Hawks to within nine points.

Laurier would continue their offensive attack with Page adding another penalty goal to make the score 19-13 in favour of Waterloo.  With time winding down Laurier were within yards of punching home a try but Waterloo's defense stood tall to preserve the victory.

The Warriors host the McMaster Marauders next Saturday in their final home game of the season at the CIF fields.  Game time is schedule for 1pm.
