Warriors open up season at home with 38-5 victory over Blues

The Waterloo men's rugby team opened up their season at home with a convincing 38-5 victory over the Toronto Varsity Blues on Wednesday night at the CIF Fields.

Waterloo's Matteo Schwartzentruber (Pembroke/) led the way with two tries including a determined effort to cross the line in the second half to seal the victory for the Warriors.

Jake Heimpel (Waterloo/), Tyler Haladuick (Calgary/), Alex Brouse (Bracebridge/) and Ian Blackie (Guelph/) each added tries in the winning effort.  Richard Lebel (Waterloo/) added three converts for six points while Zach Bogdon (Preston/) was successful on his lone convert attempt to round out the scoring for the black and gold.

Second-year political science major Nadar Mohamed scored the only try of the game for the Blues.

The Warriors look to continue their momentum on Sunday, September 11 as they travel to Hamilton to face the always tough McMaster Marauders.  Game time is scheduled for 2:00pm.
