Women's soccer vs. WLU

Women's Soccer

Women's soccer hang tough in match with no.1 team in country

The number one in the country Laurier Golden Hawks handed the Warriors a 4-1 loss on Saturday afternoon to remain perfect on the season.  Laurier now sits a 7-0-0 on the season while Waterloo are still in search of their first win of the season with a record of 0-5-2.

The Hawks struck early, with Krista Cellucci of Mississauga, Ont., opening the scoring just nine minutes into the game, and Alyssa Lagonia of Kitchener, Ont. scoring just two minutes after Cellucci's marker to put Laurier up by a pair.

Midway through the first half, Lagonia notched another goal, her fifth of the season. Not to be outdone, Cellucci capitalized on some weak Waterloo defending to score her second goal of the game, and sixth of the season, with seven minutes remaining in the first-half.

The second half saw Laurier hold back and play a defensive style which allowed second year midfielder Kiersten Colbran (Sarnia/) to score her first goal of the season spoiling the shutout for rookie netminder Margater Carmichael (Orono, Ont.) of the Hawks.

The Warriors travel to Toronto next weekend to face the York Lions (3-1-2) on Saturday, October 1 at 1pm before returning home for a four game home stand.
