The Waterloo women's soccer team battled the second place Windsor Lancers to a 1-1 draw on Friday afternoon at Warrior Field. Both goals came in the second half with Waterloo earning the equalizer in the 77
th minute.
Windsor now sits with a 5-3-2 record on the season and remains in second place in the OUA west while Waterloo has a 1-5-3 record and sits in last place.
The first half was all Windsor with Warrior keeper
Lesia Bandura (Kitchener/) having to stand on her head to keep the game locked at zero's. The best chance for the Lancers came off the foot of Tiffany Phillips (Mississauga, Ont.) who had a point blank opportunity at the 40
th minute but Bandura made an incredible diving save.
With the score tied at 0-0 in the second half, Windsor would open the scoring at the 63
rd minute. Alyshia Phillips (Windsor, Ont.) was at the right place at the right time jumping on a loose ball following a goal mouth scramble firing the ball past Bandura to give the Lancers the all important first goal.
Waterloo would find the opening they were looking for 14 minutes later as
Kaitlyn Barnett (Kitchener/) would run down the left wing and make several nice moves before finally putting the ball past Windsor keeper Rebecca Singer (Amhersburg, Ont.) on her left foot. Barrett's second goal of the season gave Waterloo a hard fought tie against a very good Lancers club.
The Warriors have the remainder of the weekend off before a pair of home games next weekend as they battle the Laurier Golden Hawks on Saturday, October 15 and Western Mustangs on Sunday, October 16. Both games are set for 1pm.
