Women's soccer upset no. 1 Laurier Golden Hawks, tie Mustangs to remain in playoff hunt

Saturday, Oct. 15 vs. Laurier
Waterloo 1, Laurier 0

The Waterloo women's soccer team pulled off an incredible upset on a miserable Saturday afternoon defeating the number one team in the country, Laurier Golden Hawks 1-0.

Laurier had yet to drop a single point all season with a perfect 10-0-0 record but a determined Warrior effort gave the black and gold an inspiring win over the cross-town opponents.

The only goal of the game came late in the second half as Adrienne Goldsworthy (Waterloo/) struck a beautiful ball from 20 feet out that hit the bar and found the back of the net to give Waterloo the 1-0 shutout victory.

Warrior keeper Lesia Bandura (Kitchener/) was once again stellar in the victory earning her third shutout of the season.  Waterloo improved to 2-5-3 on the season and still have hope for a post-season berth.  Laurier has comfortable eight point lead over McMaster for first place with a 10-1-0 record.

Next up for Waterloo is a must win game against the Western Mustangs on Sunday at 1pm.

Sunday, Oct. 16 vs. Western
Waterloo 0, Western 0

The Waterloo women's soccer team earned a crucial tie on Sunday afternoon as the Warriors and Western Mustangs battled to a nil-nil draw at the CIF fields in Waterloo.  The black and gold have earned a least a point in their last four contests.

Waterloo now sits at 2-5-4 on the season with 10 points just one point behind Brock for the sixth and final playoff spot.  Western also has 10 points on the season with a 3-9-1 record.

Waterloo keeper Lesia Bandura (Kitchener/) earned her fourth shutout of the season in the tie.

The Warriors turn their focus to the Brock Badgers who visit the CIF fields for a Wednesday afternoon match.  With a win the Warriors can move ahead of Brock for the final OUA west playoff berth.  Kickoff is set for 1pm.
