Warriors give up lead, tie Guelph

Dan Snider scores try

The Warriors and Gryphons battled the elements and each other on Saturday afternoon as part of homecoming at Waterloo.  The two teams went back and forth all game long resulting in a 24-24 draw.

The first half was a seesaw affair with the Gryphons taking the early 7-0 lead and having the Warriors respond quickly thereafter.  After exchanging another two tries and successful converts the Warriors and Gryphons went into half locked at 14.

The second half saw the Warriors storm out of the gate showing their offensive power led by fullback Richard Lebel (Waterloo, Ont.).  Lebel scored one of his two tries on the afternoon early in the second half to put the Warriors up 19-14.  Lebel now has seven tries half way through the 2010 season.  Third year hooker Dan Snider (Waterloo, Ont.) added to the Warrior offensive outburst with his second try of the year to give the Warriors a comfortable lead by 10.

The Gryphons found their stride and pushed back down the Warrior side of the field.  Following a Gryphon try to put Guelph within five, third year Michael Reid (Niagara Falls, Ont.) tied the game up with a late second half try; his second of the game.  A missed convert kept the score at 24 all and the game ended in a draw.  Both teams will pick up two points for the draw and an additional point for each scoring four or more tries as per the Sanza rugby standings system.

Adding a try for the Warriors was second year flyhalf Zach Bogdon (Cambridge, Ont.) while P Sinel (Toronto, Ont.) and Mark Dinsmore (Waterloo, Ont.) each had a try for Guelph.

Next up for Waterloo (2-1-1) is a meeting with the undefeated Brock Badgers (2-0-1) in St. Catharines on Sat, October 2 at 3:00 pm
