Warriors tie Guelph, lose to Mac

Saturday, Sept. 11 at Guelph

The Warriors earned their first point of the season in a 1-1 draw with the Guelph Gryphons.  Trailing most of the game, the Warriors tied the game in the 63rd minute with a goal by Tara Chadwick (Stratford/) (Stratford, Ont.), her second of the season.  The Warriors controlled most of the play throughout the game but were unable to convert on their chances.  Rookie goaltender and last week's recipient of Waterloo Athlete of the Week Lesia Bandura (Kitchener/) (Kitchener, Ont.) continued her stellar play between the pipes.

Sunday, Sept. 12 vs. McMaster

The Warriors were downed 2-1 at the hands of the McMaster Marauders in their second match of the weekend played at the Columbia Icefields.  The Marauders opened up the scoring in the 30th minute with third year Hayley Marler (Ancaster, Ont.) notching her first goal of the year.  Second year Tara Dawdy (Burlington, Ont.) would provide a much needed insurance marker in the 65th minute to give the Marauders a 2-0 lead.  Down but not out, the Warriors showed their resilience with a goal by rookie Eugenia Acosta (Rochester/) (Cambridge, Ont.) but could not put a second past Marauder keeper Brittany Duffey (Unionville, Ont.).  Waterloo (0-2-1) host the winless York Lions (0-2-0) at home on Saturday, September 18 while the Marauders (2-1-1) travel to Guelph (1-1-2) to face the Gryphons on September 19.
