Warriors upset Mustangs; fall to Windsor in weekend action

Saturday, Oct. 9 vs. Western
Waterloo 1, Western 0

The streaky Warrior women's soccer team shutout the Western Mustangs Saturday afternoon in Waterloo 1-0.  The Warriors showed their inner fight defeating the Mustangs who handed the Warriors a tough 7-0 loss last weekend.

Rookie midfielder Kiersten Colbran (Sarnia, Ont.) found herself in the unusual situation of playing net for the Warriors following a concussion that has sidelined rookie goalie Lesia Bandura (Kitchener, Ont.).  Before today, Colbran had never been a keeper throughout her soccer career and picked up the shutout against a tough Mustang team.

First year midfielder Eugenia Acosta (Cambridge, Ont.) netted her second goal of the season in the 33rd minute of the game to lead the Warriors to their third victory of the season.  Colbran came up big in her first ever game between the pipes to preserve the lead and win for Waterloo.

The Warriors (3-6-1) take to the field again tomorrow afternoon as they face the third place Windsor Lancers (4-1-4) at the Columbia Icefields.  Game time is set for 11:00 am.

Sunday, Oct. 10 vs. Windsor
Windsor 3, Waterloo 1

The Warriors followed up the upset over Western with a disappointing loss to the Windsor Lancers on Sunday afternoon hurting their chances to remain competitive for a playoff berth.

Following a scoreless first half the lancers scored two minutes into the second as Windsor's Candace Garrod of Kingsville netted her third goal of the season.  Waterloo would tie the game up five minutes later off the foot of Tara Chadwick (Stratford, Ont.), her fourth goal of the season.

The two teams would exchange chances with Windsor capitalizing in the 72nd minute as Garrod would once again find the net putting one past Warrior netminder Kiersten Colbran (Sarnia/).  Garrod would complete the hat trick in the 90th minute to lift her Lancers to a 3-1 win over the Warriors.  With the three goals on the afternoon, Candace Garrod now sits in ninth in OUA scoring.

Next up is a meeting with McMaster (6-3-2) on Sat, October 16th as the Warriors (3-7-1) look for their fourth win on the season.
