Warriors snap three game losing streak, end regular season on high note

The Warriors men's rugby team snapped a three game losing streak winning the battle of Waterloo as the black and gold defeated the Laurier Golden Hawks 57-7 on Wednesday afternoon at home. The Warriors who have struggled to score points in their last three games against tough opponents took it to the Hawks early and often to pick up their third win of the season in their final regular season match.

The Warriors used the wind to their advantage in the first half controlling the play and owning field advantage throughout.  Richard Lebel (Waterloo, Ont.) successfully hit five of his six converts on the day in the half as the Warriors scored 35 points to take a commanding lead.  Lebel also added a try to lead all scorers with 17 points.  The Warriors continued their dominance in the second half to seal the victory over the Hawks.

First year lock Alex Brouse (Bracebridge, Ont.) and standout flyhalf Zach Bogdon (Cambridge, Ont.) each added two tries to lift their Warriors to victory.  Bogdon's second try was one for the highlight reels as he flew down the far wing faking out several Hawks en route to the end zone.

Rounding out the scoring for the Warriors with one try each was Alexander Stanwyck (Georgetown, Ont.) Dan Snider (Waterloo), Blake Smith (Caledon, Ont.) and Tyler Walbourne (Pickering, Ont.).  Fourth year flanker Alex St. John (Kitchener, Ont.) scored the lone try for Laurier with Cody Roberts (London, Ont.) adding the convert.

The Warriors (3-4-1) have a bye in the final week of regular season play and look destined to finish in fifth setting up a quarter-final match up with the Brock Baders on Saturday, October 30 in St. Catharine's  The game is set for a 1:00 pm kickoff.
