The University of Waterloo is committed to supporting the wellbeing and mental health of our students. At times, mental health conversations trend towards reactive measures. Physical activity is a great way to proactively build and maintain positive mental health. Movement is also beneficial when your mental health is being challenged. Scheduling time to move into your daily routine and exploring ways to move and play can significantly impact your wellbeing by:

  • Reducing feelings of anxiety and depression
  • Alleviating stress
  • Boosting self-esteem, confidence and resilience
  • Improving mood, energy levels, and sleep

How to get Moving

Being active looks different for everyone, and we are believers that if you find something you love to do, you will be far more likely to make the time to do it. (Consequently, you will get to experience the great benefits of movement.) Whether you like to be active on your own or in a group, whether you’re just starting out or have already found what moves you, we offer programming for a variety of interests, abilities, and levels of commitment.
